A lady of limitless impact: Sandra Wanduragala
Share
Sandra Wanduragala, founder of Selyn, has been named to Forbes Asia’s 50 Over 50 list — a powerful recognition of women across Asia making waves in business, impact, and innovation beyond the age of 50.
For over 30 years, Sandra has been quietly transforming lives. What began in 1991 as a small initiative with 15 village women in her Kurunegala garage has grown into Sri Lanka’s only fair-trade certified handicrafts company and one of the nation’s largest social enterprises. Through Selyn, she has empowered rural communities, especially women, and taken Sri Lankan handloom to a global audience.
Despite the global recognition, Sandra remains grounded. Reflecting on the Forbes honor, she shared, “I feel comforted that someone has recognized my service to the country... I wasn’t thinking long term when I started—just that I needed to do something for society.”
Her journey proves that purpose-driven business can change lives, preserve heritage, and create a lasting global impact. And now, the world is watching.
