LCF X Selyn: Using blockchain to make supply chains more transparent

The collaboration between London College of Fashion (LCF) and Sri Lanka's fair-trade handloom manufacturer Selyn showcases the integration of blockchain technology to enhance supply chain transparency in fashion.

In March 2023, LCF students partnered with Selyn to design the "Sandra" Clapping Bag, a modern accessory crafted from handloom textiles. This project aimed to redefine the use of traditional crafts by incorporating blockchain technology, ensuring full transparency from fiber sourcing to the final product. Visitors to the launch event could scan an NFC tag on the bag to access detailed information about the production process, including the materials used, the artisans involved, and the environmental impact.

The initiative was supported by PaperTale, a Swedish technology company specializing in blockchain solutions for the textile industry. By recording each step of the production process on a blockchain, the project provided verifiable data to consumers, promoting ethical and sustainable practices in fashion.

This collaboration exemplifies how traditional craftsmanship can be combined with modern technology to meet the growing consumer demand for transparency and sustainability in the fashion industry.
