We go out of the way to assist our network to develop workshop infrastructure, upgrade design and technical skills and ensure a guaranteed flow of work. In addition, our members have access to services such as health camps, child-care facilities, life skills programmes and leadership training.
All our workshops are in handloom villages in the rural outskirts of Sri Lanka so that our artisans may work within the comfort of their own homes.
We are committed to uplifting the living standards of rural artisans by providing them with the opportunities to access work and the skills to stay at work. Following fair-trading practices, we hope not only to empower our network financially but also create a way of life within which they will thrive.
We are Sri Lanka’s only Fair Trade guaranteed Handloom company and throughout the entire process of colour and design, our people are our priority.
We are not just the Handloom company;
We at Selyn think outside the box and have established many workshops in handloom villages in the rural outskirts of the Northwestern, Eastern and Southern provinces of Sri Lanka to move away from a centralized working space to one which our artisans can reach within the comfort of their own homes. In this way we hope not only to empower them financially but also create a way of life within which they are comfortable.
In addition to assistance on workshop infrastructure, design and technical aspects and a guaranteed flow of work, our members can use services such as health camps and child-care facilities; the latter encouraging younger women to stay at work.
Our networks are also able to build their capacities by participating in life skills, leadership and entrepreneurship development programs. The life skills programs range from how to deal with pertinent social issues such as domestic abuse, alcoholism, women’s health, sexuality education and balancing their work with their personal lives.
The leadership and entrepreneurship programs are specifically designed for selected leaders to think outside the box and include sessions on business skills and most importantly on how to identify and maximize opportunities around them. With this approach, we hope not only to empower them financially but also create a way of life within which they can thrive.
We are not just the Handloom company; we are a Sri Lankan community!
